The Data Specialist creates, analyzes, troubleshoots, and improves Suran’s data-driven solutions. This role includes a mix of client interaction and technical work, and often bridges our support and development teams.

While this position is technical in nature, attention to detail and an aptitude for learning is more important than raw technical ability. Training on all aspects of the job will be provided.

This is a full-time salaried position with full benefits. Applicants will work remotely and will be provided equipment. Minimal travel is required for staff meetings and conferences (expected twice per year). Compensation is negotiable based on experience.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Working with client databases and accounts (setup, boarding, transferring, cancelling, updating etc.) using established tools
  • Performing data import from 3rd party sources (such as competing software)
  • Data manipulation through various tools
  • Developing new tools to manipulate data
  • Researching data changes to understand related application behavior
  • Loading, querying, and presenting data statistics and trends
  • Maintaining and expanding internal documentation of these processes

  • Basic understanding of relationship databases
  • Ability to learn new technical skills and tools
  • Ability to learn existing databases and how our applications affect them
  • Basic familiarity with SQL

Helpful Experience

  • Intermediate use of spreadsheet and text editor software
  • Scripting (e.g. shell)
  • Command line work
  • Regular expressions
  • Linux/macOS/Windows usage and light administration
  • Administrative/clerical work in any type organization (charitable, member-oriented, and/or accounting/payroll-driven is even better!)

Application Developer

Suran Systems, Inc. seeks a full-time full-stack application developer. Experience with EmberJS (or another JavaScript framework), Ruby on Rails, Omnis Studio, PostgreSQL, Agile development techniques, UI design, test-driven development, and macOS/Linux is a plus, but not required. Recent college graduates are preferred, but we are open to hiring an experienced professional. Compensation will be offered based on experience.

We’re looking for a talented, creative, and dedicated developer with a passion for quality work, friendly demeanor, and the ability to master new technology and concepts quickly. This position offers a mix of solitary and team development and often requires self-direction in program design and troubleshooting.
